I haven't actually ran any DC projects for years now, but recent events with my mom having cancer have made me decide to run Folding@home again, and have it selected to prefer cancer research where possible. Long story short, my mom will not be with me for much longer, hence me going specifically for F@H and preferring cancer work units.
Now I have a pretty decent mid-range PC, just the one, but I am simply astonished at the points per day I'm expected to get even with me running Second Life.
My PC is the following:
AMD Ryzen 5600 CPU
Kingston Fury 32GB DDR4 3,200MHz RAM NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB GPU
.. and the GPU is what has totally shocked me. The Ryzen 5600 is estimated around 150,000 points per day while I'm using the system. The RTX 3060 though? It's reaching upwards of 1,750,000 points per day! That's insane! I created a new name on F@H because lots of things have changed recently, but my old account has 19 million points and the RTX 3060 is going to make me blow past that old account in just 2-3 weeks. Temperatures and noise levels are perfectly fine too - CPU is at 74c with the fan at 100% (it's a Noctua fan and I already had it at 100% because it's pretty quiet) and the GPU is at 75c with a quiet fan curve applied.

My goodness.. when I am asleep or at work and F@H has my entire graphics card to itself, it's hitting just under 2.7 million points per day. That is, uh, insane.

So very sorry to hear of your Mams illness. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago, and both the disease and treatment were so distressing and devastating. My thoughts and best wishes to your Mam and all of her family and friends. regards, peter
