Seems my original post from the above needs to be put into the hardware section. Finally, Dellvil managed to get it up and running after six engineering visits, 5 new motherboard and the complete gutting of all the other internal components, some of which had already been replaced, plus a new screen. In essence, the only original part left was the bottom outer case base. Yep! they even exchanged the complete top inclusive of the screen. I ended up with a new internal PCIe 1Tb - and kept the old one as I had over 450Gb of video files - at an extravagant cost of £40

Did they ever tell you what was actually wrong with the machine.....they don't seem to have a clue what they're doing.

Did they ever tell you what was actually wrong with the machine.....they don't seem to have a clue what they're doing. The big issue, is that they - the engineers sent out - are at a total loss? I had, up to today, a completely gutted and renewed internals which has once again lost the ****ing plot? To be fair the technical side have been top notch. Quick and efficient and nothing too much of a bother when on site. However, getting in contact with any other department is a nightmare. All new parts fitted 20th May and checked out fine. Fired up Saturday, and after 2 hours SD cards fail to be recognised but show up when inserted into the USB ports in an adapter. All the cards work in other PC's without issues? Was offered a same replacement that I turned down - couldn't guarantee a replication of the issue would not return - so am getting a full refund including the warranty fee. Have an elderly Lenovo which works, and has a Blu Ray drive but is quite slow, so am looking for a pal to keep it company... Looking for an i9 processor if possible, so any suggestions would be most welcome.

I must admit that my hardware (except my gpu) tends to be older, but I mainly run an Asus ROG motherboard with an i7-6950X processor, overclocked to 4Ghz. The i9-10900K is an awesome processor, and matching it with an Asus Rog motherboard, or a MSI MEG or MPG would make a great gaming machine - but at a very high price. Too high probably. It might make more sense to go for a high spec i7 with a decent Asus or MSI motherboard, rather than pay a premium for a top of the range and expensive i9 that would be out of date soon anyway.

The i9-10850k is often significantly cheaper than the 10900k, and practically identical in performance.
I have one and it's great - power hungry though ~150-175W when all 10 cores / 20 threads are loaded. But a Noctua NH-D15S keeps it running well.

Apologies for not being around for a while. Had more issues with BB outages due to new future pre-upgrade that require digging up pavements and roads and laptop continually playing up. Had been looking to follow up the advice / suggestions from above, but as things turned out, lady luck stepped in and... Dell have decided after replacing 4 MB's and just about all other components - including a new screen and refusing to give a refund (as purchased through a reseller???) - decided to replace everything with a new and upgraded laptop??? If everything goes well, I will have a top of the range XPS worth almost twice as much as I originally paid. Just having a quick shufti through the specs but have to say I'm blown away with the upgraded new 10th gen i9 processor, upgraded nVidia GFX and new screen specs. Will have to wait a few weeks to get back to crunching etc. Just have to hope all's well that ends well = fingers X'd. Have also been informed I have a surgical pre-op on 25th - hopeful it goes OK over the phone and a new knee on the horizon to look forward to? More fingers X'd

Fantastic, that's a great result with the new laptop. And hope everything goes well with the medical stuff coming up.

Fantastic, that's a great result with the new laptop. And hope everything goes well with the medical stuff coming up. Thanks for that. 👍 Some good news from today's email update... Just been informed they have commenced the new build with postal date estimated 8th July and delivery date set for the 19th July? As the replacement issue has been ongoing for well over a month?... Just wondering if these extended dates might be related to the new OS?

Some good news... my new "new" laptop replacement has been delivered. Specs are way better than my original purchase of the same model. Screen UHD 3860 x 2400 touch enabled replaced the standard 1980 x 1200. Processor i9 @ 5.3 replaced i9 @ 2.4. Graphics nVidia GTX1650Ti replaced GTX1050. Some other gubbins have also been upgraded such as speakers and Wi-Fi. Plus, I ended up with a second 1Tb SSD for free... All of which put a big on my face. OH! Before I forget... well done to the 3 Lions for getting into the semi's. Onwards and upwards 👍 That's all the good news. The bad news... My knee op was cancelled just hours before leaving as hospital staff having to isolate due to c19 contact with A N Other?
