oops...
Main rig has an issue.
To cut a long story short I have always had temp issues, using stock intel cooler never helped (I know). I have been running in high 90's degrees for months now and that is only using one core for CPU tasks and another core set aside for if the gpu used it. No amount of air dusting helped. Decided I really had to do something about it so after watching utube decided to remove the fan and try replacing with some thermal gunk I had lying around in a box.
Got the fan off, I don't think it was still attached as it was loose. problem is two of pins have snapped so it is only attached at the top now after trying for ages to get it back on.
Temps right back up and now I know I have broken fan. Originally I had an aftermarket cooler that was never fitted as it didn't fit in the case (hence the stock cooler). At least my pc turns on so that's something - Temps are going from 78 - high 90's again but this time I am only running down some milky way tasks that barely use the cpu (4-7% utilisation in task manager). I stopped my single Rosetta task as temps went right up 98 right across the board within a couple of seconds.
undecided what to do - buy a fan, try to see if I can fit the one I have spare in the same case with side removed but would require removing all the motherboard to fit a backplate - transfer the whole lot to another case I have somewhere in the loft. Keep the new case and start thinking about some new hardware to go in it. - if I start messing I need to upgrade some other item to have this setup running better - some more Ram since Rosetta hogs a lot, new wireless card as the old one I have cant keep a connection. Decisions, decisions.
Not very confident when it comes to everything from scratch . Bugger!
