Have the new lappie checked out and all seems to be OK! 👍 Have just installed WCG and will leave on overnight for a few days to see how things work out. Knee op arranged for 21st, so will be away for 2 - 3 days and, if all goes well and when home, will let loose the 'dogs of war' for some serious crunching.

Careful, those newer laptop i9's are toasty. If things get too hot you could limit the power draw and/or lower voltage using Intel's XTU.

I have the device on a stand and have been checking out the heat issue(s) that have been reported on the Dell forum thingy. Today has been quite warm inside @ just under 24 degrees with windows etc open, and red hot outside. The base unit is still cool to the touch so hopefully, things are looking good.

👍 A big thumbs up for the XTU link which I hadn't noticed earlier. Am using Speccy to check the temps and also to find the CPU info. Looking through your link doesn't seem to show my CPU as shown by Speccy? Am now using the Dell Power App that came with the installed S/W which allows the defaults to be reset regards CPU usage so have upped the cooling settings which have dramatically reduced the CPU temps from yesterday's mid 70's down to under 50. Outside temps are low at the moment, but thanks to your link heads-up, I can keep a closer watch and act as required.

Today's the day. Operation Kneecap scheduled for 12:00. As I won't be around for the next few days crunchers will be stood down. So far the heat settings seem to be doing the business. To quote Arnie... I'll be back."

hope it all goes to plan - see you around once your back I'm back... A darned sight quicker than anticipated? Strike #4, surgery cancelled due to a recent scrape on the skin which has healed but has redness under the skin = possible infection/part of the healing process? A case of better safe than sorry should infection get into the bone. Two weeks to ensure all is well, then back - ASAP - on the chopping board. C'est la vie
