A newbie to the forum… As of date of joining, I now have up and running two laptops.
Rig #1/- A Lenovo 15” Ideapad with 8Gb RAM powered by an Intel i7 quad core @ 2.4Ghz witn dual GPU’s. An Intel 4000 GPU and an nVidia GTX660m with a 1Tb SSD.
Rig #2/- A Dell XPS 15” with 32Gb RAM powered by an i9 octa core @ 2.4GHz with dual GPU’s. An Intel UHD 630 and an nVidia GeForce GTX 1650 and a 1TB SSD
What am I upto on the BOINC front? Running various WCG medical projects.
Not exactly a force to be reckoned with but every little helps.

Same systems I had from 10 years ago, only upgraded GPU from GTX 570 to RTX 2080. Do have an old server with 4Cpu (Opteron 6176) was a beast ages ago, now-a-days it's my home entertainment system. Might spring for another 2080, but with the new NVIDIA Ampere on the horizon, may not pull the trigger.

Thinking about getting rid of my desktop and laptop to get a "gaming" laptop. I don't really need all this graphics horsepower, especially with the new Xbox coming this fall.
So I'll be downgrading from a Ryzen 7 3700X + 5700 XT, and a Core i5-8350U; to a Ryzen 9 4900HS + RTX 2060 Max-Q. Expect my RACs to drop sharply, since I'm going from ~400W down to about 100W (plus I'm not sure I can run this laptop 24/7 like I do with my desktop).
I'll probably make the switch this weekend!

Looks like its going to be an awesome gaming laptop, and that GPU will probably be great for some very occasional Folding. Upgrades do seem to go in cycles - I hadn't upgraded my systems in over 6 years, but am happy with my recent upgrades, as I'm sure you will be. Enjoy your new machine

Did you ever run any projects on your GPU the AMD XT ? It was at the higher end of possible upgrades I had been considering but heard mixed reports on drivers. just wondered about it, if it was noisy , hot etc.

Gets kinda hot under the desk with both the CPU and GPU going. This is (soon-to-be "was" ) the XFX AMD Radeon™ RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 THICC II Ultra, so it comes with a pretty beefy cooler and temps and noise are pretty well-controlled. Haven't had an issue with the drivers either, but I did have to tweak video playback settings in the Radeon software - streaming video was low-contrast until I changed to "cinema" post-processing.

I finally managed to get both of my graphics cards working in my new machine. It took some mucking about with Linux config files - because I had to keep the new RTX2070 in the primary pcie slot with the GTX1060 in the secondary pcie. I also wanted to just use the 2070 for Folding with no monitor connected, and the 1060 for my normal graphics stuff. After a lot of failures in testing, I ended up editing the xorg.conf file - just in case anyone else hits this problem. It seems to be working great now, with no effect on my machine use. It also means I can crunch 24/7 on the 2070.

Anyone tried crunching on the new M1 Macs yet? That is one impressive CPU.

Crunching again after a laptop-induced break - those fans are just too loud.
New hardware! An Intel Core i7-10700 and non-existent GPU until I can get my hands on an RTX 3070 (seems impossible these days):
BOINC CPU benchmarks: 5265 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU 18634 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

Final iteration - decided to go all out on hardware to get ClimatePrediction up and running at maximum warp (and also play games when I have the time): CPU - Ryzen 9 5950x w/ 16 cores, 32 threads RAM - 64 GB DDR4-3600 C16 GPU - Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti w/ 12GB VRAM Running 32 tasks at a time, within WSL2 since CPDN only supports Linux apps, and linked to BOINC Manager installed as a service in Windows:
